Exceptional places. A new audience.

Redefining how international hotels, resorts and travel experiences reach Chinese travellers; turning visibility into meaningful bookings.

About Meridian

Meridian Market connects hotels, resorts and travel experiences with Chinese consumers. Despite being home to the largest outbound travel market in the world - one that spends more and stays longer per trip than almost any other - Western companies rarely build a dedicated strategy to reach it. Instead, resources continue to flow into the same crowded Western channels and OTA platforms where every competitor is already fighting for attention.

China runs on an entirely different digital ecosystem. Google is blocked. Facebook is blocked. Instagram is blocked. YouTube is blocked. X is blocked. The tools that built a hotel's Western marketing presence simply don't exist there.

So we built the bridge ourselves.

This shift can feel daunting: most hospitality teams have deep experience in Western marketing and almost none in China's. We've spent years in both, and we built Meridian specifically to close that gap - a small, deliberate team that's clear on strategy, clear on goals, and committed to walking you through a process that's genuinely new. What we bring isn't just fluency in both markets, it's a bias toward work that shows up on the booking sheet, not just in a monthly report.

The opportunity机会

Translation is not the same as presence.

Many Chinese travellers plan a trip somewhere you can't see. The research happens on Xiaohongshu, in first-hand accounts and saved collections. Inspiration arrives as short video on Douyin. The real questions get asked inside a WeChat group. By the time a booking platform is open, much of the decision has already been made.

This is why running an existing campaign through translation does so little. The words change; the context doesn't. What earns attention is material built for those platforms; the right images, the right length, the right reasons to care.

The aim is not visibility alone. It is to translate awareness into measurable commercial outcomes: more bookings, longer stays, higher visitor spending and stronger long-term demand.

Platforms and traveller habits change quickly, and no two properties are read the same way. We test rather than assume.

Views are a signal. Reservations are the result.

How we work流程
Step one

Understand the brand

We start by getting to know the property or experience in detail: what makes it distinctive, who books it today, which offerings guests value most, and what a successful booking looks like commercially. We review your existing marketing, imagery, guest questions, booking channels and seasonal demand, as well as the destination around you. The aim is to understand not just what you offer, but why a Chinese traveller would choose it.

Step two

Build the strategy

With that understanding, we define the audience, positioning and channels most relevant to your goals. We develop a content plan that presents your offering in a way that feels native to Chinese travellers, alongside a practical plan for distribution, partnerships and conversion. Each activity has a purpose and a way to assess whether it is working.

Step three

Establish the presence

Before inviting attention, we make sure travellers have somewhere useful to land. Depending on the plan, this may mean setting up or improving your presence on Chinese social and travel platforms, adapting booking information, and preparing Chinese-language content that answers the questions guests ask before they commit.

Step four

Launch content and campaigns

We begin publishing, engaging with audiences and putting the strategy into market. That can include original content, creator collaborations, paid campaigns and travel-trade outreach, timed around your availability and the travel periods that matter most. The goal is to connect discovery with a clear route to enquiry or reservation.

Step five

Measure and refine

We review what people are seeing, saving and asking about and, most importantly, whether that interest is turning into qualified enquiries and bookings. We use those results to refine the content, improve the booking journey and focus investment on the channels producing the strongest commercial return.

Questions常见问题

Common questions.

Fortunately, we overcome many of the regulatory and operational barriers on your behalf, so you will not typically need your own mainland Chinese entity or registered business licence.

Requirements vary between platforms, and there may be instances where account verification is not possible. We assess this during the initial feasibility scan, allowing us to confirm what can be achieved and recommend the appropriate route before any work begins.

At the beginning of the engagement, we create a centralized data room containing all the information and assets our team may need. This typically includes rates, availability, property or experience details, existing photography and video, usage rights, brand guidelines, current marketing materials, booking information and a named point of contact.

Creating this resource upfront allows our team to find answers quickly and work independently, reducing unnecessary follow-ups and keeping the day-to-day operation streamlined.

Longer than a campaign, shorter than a rebrand, and the exact timeline will depend on the opportunity, your existing positioning and the level of resources committed to the market. Additional investment in areas such as paid media, KOL collaborations, familiarization trips and livestream campaigns can also influence the pace of growth.

Presence compounds. Your accounts, content and listings must first exist, build credibility and give demand somewhere to go. For this reason, we generally recommend a commitment of at least six months.

This is not simply a short-term marketing campaign; we are establishing your presence in China and laying the foundations for sustained, compounding visibility and bookings.

Every engagement begins with an initial market-fit assessment. From this, we develop the strategy best suited to your hotel, travel experience or wider hospitality offering. We do not rely on fixed packages because the right combination of platforms, content and campaigns will differ for every client.

Your success is our success, so we focus our time and resources on the activities with the greatest potential to generate qualified interest and visibility.

Our core fee typically covers our team, strategy, execution, account management and standard platform costs. Pricing and inclusions will always be presented clearly before the engagement begins. Additional campaign investment; including paid advertising, familiarization trips, KOL or influencer partnerships, UGC creators and external production, will be scoped and approved separately.
